Image resizer: set width, height or percent

Enter a new width or height and the other side follows, so the picture keeps its proportions. You can also scale by percent or fit it into a box, for example 1200 by 800 pixels.

Mode

Your files never leave this device. Everything is processed in the browser, nothing is uploaded.

Four ways to set the size

Width and Height fix one side and calculate the other. Percent scales both sides together: 50 gives a quarter of the pixels. Fit in box keeps the picture inside the width and height you enter, which suits a batch of photos with mixed orientation.

Resampling uses the Lanczos filter, a good default for downscaling photos. Enlarging is possible, but no tool can invent detail that was never in the picture.

    Common target sizes

Full HD wallpaper is 1920 pixels wide, blog images mostly work at 1200, product thumbnails at 600, and an avatar at 400 by 400. Social networks recompress uploads anyway, so give them a picture of the size they ask for instead of the original.

    Questions

    Does resizing lower the quality?

Making a picture smaller loses nothing that would still be visible at the new size. Making it larger makes it soft. The quality slider also applies to JPG and WebP output.

Can I crop to an exact ratio?

This tool scales; it does not crop. Use Fit in box to stay within a given size without distortion.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes, up to 20. The same rule is applied to each of them. See also the bulk resizer page.

Do I get a bigger file after enlarging?

Usually yes, because there are more pixels to store. Compress the result afterwards if the size matters.
